The next morning, our cars were fully charged, and we were ready to continue our trip to Nouakchott, the capital of Mauretania.

What you can often see in Mauretania is a very special way of storing water. They use huge bags with a capacity of thousands of liters. Especially in smaller villages, they can be found everywhere. Even our hotel in Chami had one.

The road after Chami was still a bit challenging to drive, narrow with lots of deep holes. Overtaking wasn’t easy.
Halfway between Chami and Nouakchott, we stopped at a place with beautiful orange sand that reminded me of the Kalahari desert.

At noon, we reached Nouakchott.

Our first stop was at the Yemeni restaurant in the city center for lunch. The food was fantastic, with lots of tasty spices and great flatbread fresh from the oven. Highly recommended!

Then, we checked in at the Aloe Emira Hotel, where we had planned to spend the night and also charge our cars. It’s a nice, clean, and comfortable hotel.

Ayoub was checking the installation. Everything looked good, and they already had three CEE plugs installed that we could use for our cars. We have added the place on PlugShare.

On the way to Dakar, we didn’t have any time for sightseeing in Nouakchott since Doris and Thomas had a very tight schedule and needed to be back in Europe soon. Sadly, it’s all a bit rushed. But I’ve already planned to stay an additional full day in Nouakchott together with Hans on our way back to explore some of the highlights of the capital.
If you want to do this trip, I would strongly recommend planning at least 7 weeks, better 8 weeks. Otherwise, you will miss a lot of interesting things along the route, and also at some point, you will feel burned out because rest days are missing.
In the evening, we had dinner at the hotel restaurant. One mixed grill plate with fish and seafood, and one with meat. Ayoub and Hans were very happy, as you can imagine from the following picture.

We also did laundry in the hotel. We brought our clothes in the early afternoon to the reception, and everything was ready and cleaned in the evening. Perfect!
