There and Back Again, an EV Adventure to Dakar | #8 – El Argoub to Bir Gandouz

I spent the night at the Oasis Resort in El Argoub in my car.

Our next destination, Bir Gandouz, was only 210km away. So we had time to relax in El Argoub.

I also used the spare time to work on my blog.

In the meantime, Friedwart tested his solar charging setup with all 36 panels.

It worked well, and he was able to charge his car with about 4kW. Not bad.

In the late afternoon, we started from El Argoub.

Our first stop on that day was at the Tropics of Cancer.

It marks the highest latitude at which the sun appears directly overhead at noon. This happens during the June solstice. It also marks the northern boundary of the tropics.

In recent years, I’ve crossed several times the Tropics of Capricorn, the equivalent circle in the southern hemisphere. But I think it’s the first time I’m crossing this northern circle by car, boat, or on foot.

Our next stop was at the Dune Labouirda. It consists of spectacular white sand and is definitely worth a quick stop.

Around 8pm, we arrived at the Hotel Barbas in Bir Gandouz.

There is a Type 2 charger from Kilowatt there. But it has been damaged for a couple of months.

Ayoub repaired the connector and also connected his charging box to be able to charge all 4 cars in parallel overnight.
